Miss
Gibraltar 2018 has today left to the Miss World pageant in Sanya China. Star
Farrugia is looking forward to the experience and says her reign so far has
been amazing, presenting plenty of opportunities.
The 22-year
old has been busy with her charitable efforts in support of Clubhouse Gibraltar,
a cause she says is close to her heart. She’s keen to raise awareness of mental
health, especially in light of recent concerning events in the community.
Star has
organised numerous fundraisers to include a spinning class, Zumba events and an
Upper Rock Med Steps challenge. However due to the bad weather a few weeks ago,
she has had to postpone a few of the outdoor challenges for after Miss World.
Star says
she enjoys training and feeling strong, but she also highlights the benefits of
exercise for the mind and mental health, describing training as therapeutic.
The law firm
receptionist will be away from home for four weeks the longest ever yet, but
says all the contestants are in the same boat and will no doubt support each other.
She’s looking forward to meeting the other girls and representing Gibraltar,
which she describes as a blessing.
On the
question of the relevance of beauty pageants these days, Star says it’s hard to
criticise these shows if you haven’t gone through the experience, life is what
you make of it she says. “It’s been such a positive thing for me, I would
encourage anyone to enter.”
Miss
Gibraltar 2018 promises to give it her all at the International pageant and
make the most of the opportunities the show presents.
The Miss
World Pageant will take place on the 8th December.
