A colourful scene of the Upper Town area of Gibraltar, off Castle Steps, created using the palette knife. The painting is a riotous display of bold primary colours with sharp stabs of greens and blues. The painting depicts an afternoon scene with the sun shining from the West, creating interesting shadows which add contrast in the painting. There is a great deal of texture due to the thick application of the paint which lends a sense of the dilapidated and flaky facades of the buildings in the area. The figures and use of light help to create perspective, drawing the viewer up the steps further into the Upper Town.
