One of Mario Finlayson’s later pieces showing a scene from Gibraltar's Upper Town. The view is taken from the top end of what is popularly called La Calle Comedia, an area which has historically housed quite a few theatres and cafes. Interestingly well-known Gibraltarian painter Gustavo Bacarisas was born in one of the houses on the left in 1872. The colour range used is vivid, the soft violets contrasting with the louder pinks, Naples yellow, mellow orange and the greens of the emblematic shutters. The shadow cast on the steps lead the viewer’s gaze down in the direction of Main Street, adding a slightly mysterious element to the artwork.
