Ink on Paper
This is a very significant work in the career of the artist. His portrait of his younger brother Horacio afforded Bacarisas the opportunity to go to Rome to study at the Spanish Academy of Art. The painter’s talent and skill were recognised by a group of businessmen in Gibraltar who sponsored the young man’s studies abroad, which turned out to be an important investment in his future. The portrait is a very accomplished piece, not only at a technical level, but also with regards to its feel, perhaps as the subject was a loved family member. It has a strange reverie quality which is reminiscent of the works by Seurat and the Pointillist School.
