This painting is quite different to the artist’s usual expressionistic style. Azagury is working with watercolours using a more extensive palette, and focusing on the details of the area. He depicts interesting features to include the bomb shelter with its descending staircase, St Andrew’s Church and the surrounding buildings. The details of the windows and shutters and even the clothes drying on the rooftops gives the scene a lot of subtle character. Although dominating the foreground due to their size the vehicles draw the viewer into the painting to appreciate the smaller background details.
